Swirl Flap Solution Files

Swirl flaps are small valves in the intake manifold that change air movement into the cylinders at low engine speeds, mainly to improve combustion and emissions. They are moved by a vacuum or electric actuator, and the ECU monitors their position.

Where the flaps have been removed or blanked, the ECU will usually log actuator and position faults. Our swirl flap solution files are developed from the original read you supply so the ECU matches the hardware fitted.

Typical Situations

Removing flaps is a mechanical job and must be done correctly. Loose or broken flaps can enter the engine, so inspect the manifold carefully. A software file only addresses the ECU side once the hardware work is complete.

  • Flaps removed and the ports blanked during intake work
  • Actuator or position sensor faults after flap removal
  • Manifold replaced with a version without flaps

What To Send

  • The original, unmodified ECU read (full read where your tool supports it)
  • Vehicle make, model, engine code and year
  • ECU type and software version where known
  • The tool and read method used (master or slave, bench or OBD)
  • The exact solution required and any related fault codes
  • Confirmation that the flaps have been removed or blanked, and how

Compatibility

Swirl flap strategies vary by engine and ECU. On some engines the swirl function is linked to other emissions or air-path maps. Compatibility is confirmed per file.

Limitations

  • Not every ECU or software version can be supported
  • Removing swirl flaps may change emissions and affect testing
  • The file must match the hardware actually fitted
  • Not supplied where the change would be unlawful for the vehicle's intended use

Pricing

Trade prices are shown in the customer portal once you register. Supported delete options are included in the file price and there is no minimum order. Where a solution can be combined with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 calibration on the same ECU, it can be requested in the same file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the file remove the flaps?
No. The flaps are removed or blanked mechanically. The file changes the ECU so it no longer expects the flaps or their actuator.
Is swirl flap removal legal for road use?
It depends on the country and the vehicle, because it can affect emissions. Files are only supplied for off-road, motorsport or export use where that use is lawful, and an off-road or export label does not by itself make the work legal. The ordering business is responsible for confirming compliance.
